Security Updates

Last week in “main” Monarch Bay (not the Mall), we had a late-night car theft and garage burglary. The car was recovered, and the crime(s) are currently being investigated. Videos at the gate show the car departing Monarch Bay and of course that evidence was turned over to the police. This is an unfortunate reminder that even in Monarch Bay we all must be vigilant and take home-security very seriously.

On top of the seriousness of these events, I’m sure you are all aware we are starting the Entry Project – beginning with the dismantling of the mid-gate & main gate-arm and electronics (but not to include guard shack or mid-gate cameras for the time being). The guards are instructed to acknowledge all resident entries and stop all service cars and guests prior to entry through the main gate. While this is not the preferred level of security/traffic monitoring, it is necessary to accommodate the construction.

The burglary and break-in will be agendized for discussion at our next Board meeting. While security is a topic for nearly every Board meeting, these recent events really bring into focus the need for additional measures to be taken community wide. Your input is invited. Our Homeowner’s Forum begins at 7:30 p.m.

Speaking of the Entry Project… There is still some final paperwork to be handled before the demo begins. But beginning tomorrow, you will see some re-routing of traffic at the main-exit. SDG&E will be doing some work in the exit lane, necessitating all out- bound traffic to use Beach Club Drive. Expect the detour to start mid-morning Wednesday and last through to Thursday (and possibly Friday).

Be safe.
